A Day in the Life

Sunflower, Tucson, AZ

Week day routines are SO important for productivity, stress management, and even for creativity. This is just a sneak peek into what a week day typically looks like for me.

A day in my life goes a little something like this:

5:55am— Alarm goes off.

6:05— Rise from my bed.IMG_9538

6:05-6:10 — Drink water with lemon, turmeric, and ginger

6:10-7:00 — Run

7:00-7:20—Do yoga/stretching/handstands at the park

7:30— Shower

8:00- Make breakfast and pack lunch. (I practice ahimsa, or non-harm, so I am a mostly vegan vegetarian. I try to nourish myself with foods that cause no harm to animals, are least harmful for the the environment, and that will cause the least harm to me as the consumer.)

Breakfast is pretty much always oatmeal with fresh fruit. Sometimes nuts, chia seeds, or flax seeds. Honey. More fruit. (I like sugar, and I do NOT think that naturally occurring sugars are overly harmful if consumed in moderation.)

8:15- Take the light rail to the University of AZ BIO5 Institute (my first job of the day)

12:00pm- LUNCH

Local, organic lemon drop tomatoes

My lunch menu changes everyday, but it is always veggies. Today’s lunch was roasted local organic asparagus, broccoli, carrots with honey and Korean BBQ sauce. Bag of local lemon drop tomatoes, hummus, and an Ezekiel pita.

12-3 – Work, work, work, work, work (Either at the BIO5 or teaching private yoga classes/meditation)

3-3:30 Meditation/ Snack time

Snack— Today it was half a watermelon. Seriously. An entire half a watermelon. (I don’t think I can ever have enough hydrating food down here in the desert.)

Guided Meditation — I recommend Tara Brach for beginners. I listen to her often, however my go-to guided meditation is a Yoga Nidra recording from my first yoga teacher, Keelyn Riley based in Flagstaff.

4:00- Take or teach a yoga class

5:30- Teach yoga class

Filthy Farm Girl is a brand of homemade organic soap I found in VT

7:00- Eat something on the go (sometimes I’ll prepare a dinner, but usually it’s veggies and hummus from the local CO-OP)

7:30- Teach another yoga class

8:30- Return home, make tea, maybe eat a late snack.

9:00- Shower with handmade organic soaps, oil pulling with extra-virgin coconut oil, aromatherapy with lavender and peppermint oil.

9:15- Kitty/boyfriend snuggles while Journaling or Reading (List of favorite books to come).

The Gift by Hafiz. Recommend Sufi poetry to anyone with a good sense of humor and an existential curiosity.

10:00- Lights out

ZzzzzZZzzzzz…. Finally Sleep.

Then I do it all again the next day.

What is your day like? Anything like this?
